Catrin Stewart, well known for her appearances as Jenny Flint in Stella and Doctor Who, as well as in Casualty and Misfits, plays Lizzie Borden in this popular TV adaption. Even in this exquisite drama marred by slow pace, she makes the character her own.
Stewart started gravitating for characters that were diametrically opposed to goody-goody Bella Swan as soon as she finished Twilight. She’s a sweary young lapdancer in New Orleans who’s been befriended by an older salesperson.
1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
After winning the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark must go on a victory tour, but the Districts are beginning to show signs of rebellion against President Snow’s dictatorship. Meanwhile, Katniss is haunted by the memory of her late mentor, Beetee.
The new head gamemaker, Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), has a name that sounds like “nuts and volts.” He takes over for the executed Seneca Crane, and he’s a terrifying new villain with direct orders from Snow to ensure Katniss doesn’t survive the 75th Quarter Quell.
Kids who saw the first film will want to see Catching Fire, which is darker and sexier than the original. There is some swearing, including the F-word from Johanna Mason (bleeped out). Drinking and drugs are also present. The movie contains several scenes of violence, but it is less bloody than the first one.
2. The Girl in the Spider’s Web
Stewart’s post-Twilight career has been marked by an unfailing willingness to accept roles that push her in new directions. In this icy thriller, she gives a badass performance as a ruthless serial killer whose vengeance is ignited by a love triangle with her husband and his mistress.
This soft reboot of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo brings Claire Foy back as Lisbeth Salander, with writer-director Fede Alvarez filling in the gaps between Stieg Larsson’s original trilogy and David Fincher’s 2011 film. The Girl in the Spider’s Web introduces the character’s sister Camilla (Sylvia Hoeks), whose tortured childhood by an incestuous pedophile went largely unexplained in Larsson’s books.
As a result, the sequel suffers from a few pacing issues, but Foy’s unflinching commitment to her character makes the movie worthwhile. She projects a badass attitude without resorting to cartoony tics and is able to hold her own in any fight with the movie’s villains.
3. The Devil Wears Prada 2
After all these years, The Devil Wears Prada still remains one of Anne Hathaway’s most enduring hits. Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly has become a pop culture icon and the go123 movies film’s themes of toxic work environments have only gained in relevance.
Director David Frankel has also lent his talents to TV shows like Entourage and Sex and the City. However, those shows have a tendency to add extraneous storylines to the lives of their characters.

4. The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada was one of the most significant movies of 2006. It skewered fashion’s doyennes, gave Anne Hathaway her biggest movie hit to date and turbo-charged Emily Blunt’s US film career. It also established Streep as a powerhouse in the movie world.
The film is based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel about her year as an assistant to the ruthless editor of Runway Magazine, Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep). While she initially has poor taste and a begrudging attitude, Andy gradually adopts a more stylish wardrobe and a more spirited approach to her job.
Director David Frankel is a TV writer/director with credits on Sex and the City and Entourage, and this gives the movie its slick look. However, it’s the performances by Hathaway and Streep that really make this movie shine. It’s hard to imagine the movie without them.
5. The Girl in the Spider’s Web
Stewart, whose work between the Twilight films ranged from a sweary lapdancer to a woman with mad killing skills, makes a solid impression in this spare, powerful drama about an army private at Guantanamo Bay. Her performance testifies to her impressive range and pent-up talent.

In this sequel to the Millennium series, based on the books by David Lagercrantz (who took over after Stieg Larson’s death), Lisbeth Salander is a wounded woman refusing to stay inside the lines drawn for her. Stewart is at her best here, making the character feel alive even as she hacks into NSA servers and destroys August’s family home. The 123movies film’s finale is a real tearjerker.
