Side effects and Precautions while taking Modafinil to treat Sleep Apnea

Side effects

Modalert 200 mg (Modafinil)is a wakefulness-promoting agent, and it has shown promising results in reducing excessive daytime sleepiness in people with narcolepsy. It has also been found to decrease daytime sleepiness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea and shift work sleep disorder. Its effectiveness has led several authors to suggest that it should be considered as a replacement for psycho-stimulant medications in the treatment of these conditions.

It is not known exactly how Modafinil works to increase wakefulness. However, it appears to affect the chemicals in your brain that control your sleep/wake cycle. It is not a cure for sleep disorders and should only be used as directed by your doctor.

The most common side effects of Modafinil are headache, dizziness, nausea, anxiety, and nervousness. These can be mild or severe, depending on the dosage you are taking. If you experience any of these side effects, contact your doctor immediately.

A serious but rare side effect of Modafinil is skin rash. Contact your doctor if you notice a rash that spreads, causes sores in your mouth or throat, affects your eyes, or covers a large area of the body.

If you are taking Modafinil to treat obstructive sleep apnea, your doctor may also recommend that you use a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine while sleeping. The CPAP machine is an air pump connected to a mask that blows pressurized air into your nose while you sleep. It can help keep your airway open and prevent your apnea episodes. It is important to continue using a CPAP machine even while you are taking Modafinil, as it will not cure your sleep apnea.

Talk to your doctor about the possible risks and benefits of this medication before you begin treatment. It is important to tell your doctor about any medical history you have, especially if you have high blood pressure or heart problems, liver or kidney disease, mental/mood problems (such as depression, or bipolar disorder), and a personal or family history of drug/alcohol abuse. It is important to avoid consuming alcohol while taking Modafinil.

Modafinil Australia decreases extreme sleepiness caused by narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. It also helps people with work schedules that interfere with a normal sleep routine stay awake during their night shifts (shift work sleep disorder, SWSD). It is not for use to treat tiredness or hold off sleep in people who do not have a sleep problem.

Like other psycho-stimulants, this medication may cause hallucinations, delusions, and mania in some people. It should be used with caution in people who have psychiatric disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, and suicidal thoughts. People who take this medication should be reassessed for their level of sleepiness frequently and avoid driving or other potentially dangerous activities until they are alert.

This drug can make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) can make this effect worse. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Talk to your doctor before having surgery or other medical procedures if you are taking this medication. This medicine can increase the risk of bleeding, especially when taken with aspirin or a similar anticoagulant, or blood thinners such as Warfarin. It can also interact with some medications for high blood pressure or heart conditions, such as cocaine, methyldopa, propranolol, and others. It can also speed up or slow down the removal of certain drugs from your body by affecting liver enzymes. These include azoles antifungal such as itraconazole/ketoconazole, rifamycins such as revamping and rifabutin, and some anti-seizure medications such as carbamazepine and Phenobarbital.

This medication is not recommended for use in pregnant women because it may harm an unborn baby. If you decide to breastfeed, your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of doing so. This medication passes into breast milk and can cause side effects in a nursing infant. If this medication is used during breastfeeding, a woman should monitor the infant for signs of irritability and poor sleep patterns. The AAP recommends against the use of amphetamines, including modafinil, during breastfeeding because they can cause serious or life-threatening reactions in an infant. If it is absolutely necessary, a woman should stop breastfeeding and use an alternative form of infant care for the duration of the medication treatment.
